BULLSHIT: An Early Look at the Possible Lollapalooza Lineup

With the recent announcement of Coachella's 2012 lineup, the discussion for all summer festival lineups is now in full force. Coachella generally serves as the model for most of the festivals throughout the US in any given year and this year is no exception.

The Black Keys will likely return to Lolla this year and this time in a headliner position after the release of El Camino. Radiohead has dates that end in Japan in late July and are rumored to tour Australia in November leaving a headlining slot in the first week of August highly likely. Nobody cares about Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg… Nobody.

Some un-Coachella related headliners then could possibly be The Strokes (new album in the works?) and even Passion Pit is being rumored even though they are only set to release their second album. Another big surprise would be the other indie pop band MGMT who will release their self-titled third LP sometime this spring (?). The latter two however are more likely to sub-headline. Daft Punk would be a dream come true headliner surprise and Pearl Jam would also be very nice.

Most intriguing however is the sub-headliners. M83 is highly likely considering they have a US date in NYC the week prior to the festival. Explosions in the Sky and Arctic Monkeys won't be slotted considering they both played in 2011. The Shins are expected to announce more dates into the summer in support of their upcoming release Port of Morrow and Bon Iver is expected to play more festivals this year than the zero they did last year. Mumford and Sons are being rumored as well considering they could possibly be and throw Florence + the Machine and Miike Snow into the conversation as well.

Now to the meaty and exciting lower-tiered stuff. St. Vincent has been rumored due to people's conversation's with Annie Clark. The Rapture's return this past year beckons considerations that they return to Lollapalooza and Yuck could possibly return to Chicago this summer after playing Pitchfork Festival last year. GIVERS and EMA would be nice little round outs from Coachella Day one. tune-yards and the Big Pink could be at Lolla in support of their recent albums while Grouplove and the Vaccines are both out because they played last year. Again, all of this is simply speculation, but much of this is well thought out and very possible.
